MALAY ART GALLERY'S....House of  Keris

Keris Anak Alang Terengganu Ulu Serindit 0220.

Keris Anak Alang Terengganu Ulu Serindit 0220 - Another very good and rare example of a keris from the norther Maysian peninsular region of Terengganu. Finely carved handle in the form of a parrot or burung serindit,  has details at the flowing feathers and the eyes, that needs added mentioning. Top sheath in the sabit bulan or crescent moon form, is made from very well selected ketengga woods with naturally occurring contrasting grains. Bottom stem or gandar is made from angsana woods with tiger's stripe grains. A pierced through silver ferrule or pendoko completes fittings.

Rather long, slim and very sturdy straight blade, has the base features or perabots very well executed, with an overall shape or dapor called anak alang, which shares many similar characteristics to the longer keris panjang or executioner's keris.

Pamor pattern are condense and shows few shades of white and black metals, arranged in the mlumah technique, of the kulit semangko or melons skin pamor which  is said to enhance the owners popularity.
The keris anak alang and it similar "cousins" the longer keris panjang, and the shorter keris bahari, are meant for status wear.

Condition: Very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the late 19th century blade with newly made fittings.

Length of blade: 14.5".   Overall length: 19.5".
