MALAY ART GALLERY'S....House of  Keris

Keris Bali Lombok Lurus Combong 0322.

Keris Bali Lombok Lurus Combong 0322 - A very good example of a keris from the island of Bali or Lombok. Finely carved handle in the kocek-kocekan form, having the influences from Shiva's phallus. The gayaman form sheath is made from very well selected woods with tiger stripe grains. A semi precious studded silver ferrule or ewer in Balinese, complete the fittings.

Very long straight or lurus blade, having a prominent spine and very well executed base features or perabots, with an overall shape or dapor called jalak ngore in Javanese.
At the base fullers, or sogokan, the metals has through time naturally worn through, and this is called combomg, sought after for its mystical properties.

Pamor patterns are arranged in the mlumah  technique
concentrating along the middle of the blade, called pamor kulit semangko or melon skin pamor.

Condition: Very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the early 19th century.

Length of blade: 17".   Overall length: 25".
