Keris Betok Kulit Semangko 0220

Keris Betok Kulit Semangko 0220 - A good and rare example of a keris from the northern Javanese regions of Pesisiran. Finely carved handle in a form hiding a figurine or deity, usually attributed to Cirebon, with the sheath or wrangka made from well selected redwoods called sawo, very well carved in the sandang walikat form.

Sturdy and rather broad blade with a straight or lurus profile, having the base features or perabots well executed, and an overall shape or dapor called betok referring to the flatfish.

Pamor patterns are arranged in the mlumah technique of the wos utah or scattered rice variation, with some unplanned pamor tibans at the base that has some mystical references.
The keris betok is sought after for it is said to neutralize the other kerises in a collection.

Condition: Very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the early to mid 18th century blade, with late 20th century fittings.

Length of blade: 13.5.   Overall length: 18".

Price:- US$380 excluding shipping.
