Keris Bugis Sulawesi Luk 7 Ganjar Seiras 1209.
Keris Bugis Sulawesi Luk 7 Ganjar Seiras 1209 –
Another very good and rare example of a keris from the southern Sulawesi regions
of Bugis. Handle in the kerdas form and top sheath in the tebeng
form is made from very well selected kemuning woods with natural flashing
grains, having finely repoussed silver bands with floral motifs at the front and
Islamic verses in Arabic at the back. A well repoussed silver ferrule or
pendoko completes fittings.
Long and very sturdy blade with 7 waves or luks and well executed base features or perabots, has the rare ganjar seiras i.e. the base cross piece made one with the blade.
Pamor patterns are rare and are arranged in the mlumah technique of the wos utah or scattered rice variations. All patterns are unplanned, or pamor tiban. At the base, a peak like formation of the unplanned pamor tiban is seen and is called ujung gunung. The other side of the base has a semi circular formation of pamor tiban that is called batu lapak.
The pamor wos utah is said to enhance the owner’s material well being, while the pamor ujung gunung is said to enhance the owner’s status and the pamor batu lapak is said to protect the owner in time of chaos.
Condition: Very good condition.
Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the late 19th century.
Length of blade: 14.3". Overall length: 19.2".
