Keris Bugis Sulawesi Luk 9 Ujung Gunung 1109.

Keris Bugis Sulawesi Luk 9 Ujung Gunung 1109 – Another very good example of a keris from the southern Sulawesi region of Bugis. Handle in the typical Bugis kerdas or pistol grip form, and the top sheath or sampir are made from very well selected kemuning woods with natural flashing grains. The bottom stem is made from angsana wood with tiger’s stripe grains, with a bone bottom tip. A thick, well cheisel brass ferrule or pendoko completes fittings.

Very sturdy blade with 9 sublime waves or luks, has very well executed base features or perabots typical of the Bugis Sulawesi styles.

Pamor pattern are condense, and showing good contrast in the variety of metal selections. At the base, a peak like formation done in the miring technique is seen, and is called ujung gunung. Above it are contouring patterns done in the mlumah technique of the kulit semangko or melon’s skin variations.
The pamor ujung gunung is said to enhance the owner’s status, while the pamor kulit semangko is said to enhance the owner’s popularity.

Condition: Aside from minor chip at the side of the wooden handle, (still all intact) rest is all in very good condition. Very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the middle to late 19th century.
