Keris Bugis Sumbawa Luk 9 Pamor Munggul 0822.

KerisBugis Sumbawa Luk 9 Pamor Munggul 0822 - A very good rare kris from central eastern Indonesian island of Sumbawa. More known for the komodo dragon, this region is also very strongly influence by Bugis. With the typical Bugis pistol grip or kerdas type hilt, and the square and wide top sheath, made from burl woods or gembol, strongly suggesting a chieftain use. Bottom stem is having the rare loop attachments called the toli-toli, made from jute string wrapped rattan and human hairs at the middle.

Very thick and sturdy blade with 9 waves or
luks, and well executed base features or perabots, having the less common nguku bima or bima's claw as appose to the usual elephant trunk or kembang kacang.

Pamor patterns are condense and are arranged in the mlumah technique of the kulit semangko or melon skin pamor. The presence of few very contrasting silver pamor lines strongly suggest the use of the much sought after pamor luwu. At the base of the blade there is a blotch of white silvery metal that is called pamor munggul, which suggest the presence of very strong metals, that could possibly be titanium.

Condition: Very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the late 18th century.

Length of blade: 12.5".   Overall length: 17.5".
