Keris Bugis Riau Lurus Ganjar Seiras Batu Lapak.

Keris Bugis Riau Lurus Ganjar Seiras Batu Lapak – A very good and rare example of a keris form the southern Sumatran regions of Riau Lingga. Handle in the kerdas form and the top sheaths are made from well selected kemuning woods with natural flashing grains. Bottom stem is made from angsena woods with tiger’s stripe grains. A well repoussed and thick brass ferrule or pendoko completes fittings.

 Very sturdy straight blade with well executed base features or perabots, and has the base cross piece or ganjar made one with the blade and called ganjar seiras.

 Pamor pattern shows a semi circular pattern at the base of the blade called pamor batu lapak or saddle stone, and above it are vertical pamor patterns called pamor adeg or standing pamor.

 The pamor batu lapak is said to protect the owner in times of chaos, while the pamor adeg is said to protect the owner from natural mishaps.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the middle 19th century.
