Keris Bugis Sulawesi Luk 3 Adeg Toli-Toli.

Keris Bugis Sulawesi Luk 3 Adeg Toli-Toli A very fine example of a keris from the southern Sulawesi regions of Bugis. Handle in the kerdas form and the op sheath or sampir in the typical Bugis tebeng form, are made of hard and well selected kemuning woods with natural flashing grains, with teh base of the hilt encased with fine brass wire weavings.
The bottom stem has the top half encased with finely repoussed silver, and has the rare toil-toli or loop like attachments (meant for high status wear) at the front having the word Allah at the front. The bottom half of the stem is encased with fine brass wire weavings and a repoussed bottom tip.

Thick and very sturdy blade with three luks or waves, a slightly angular profile and well executed base features or perabots. This blade has an overall shape or dapor called jangkung in Javanese.

Pamor patterns are rather complicated and are arranged in the miring technique showing vertical lines called the pamor adeg ilir or standing pamor.
The pamor adeg ilir is said to protect the owner in times or chaos.

Condition: Very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to late 19th century.

Length of blade: 13.8".   Overall length: 19.1".
