Keris Cirebon Betok Iras Qul Buntet 0719.

Keris Cirebon Betok Iras Qul Buntet 0719 - A rare example of a rather short keris from the northern Javanese coastal regions of Cirebon. Handle made of buffalo horn is made in the form called the putra satu, with the sheath in the sandang walikat form, made of very well selected woods with tiger's stripe grains.

Rather short and broad blade, is considered lurus or straight with very minimal base features, and also having the base cross piece or ganjar, made one with the blade, and is called ganjar seiras. It has an overall shape called betok in Javanese, referring to the flat fish. The keris betok is also said to be used as a "neutralizing" keris.

Pamor patterns is showing only at the base having two swirls merging together. The pamor is called qul buntet and is said to protect the owner from unseen forces.

Condition: Very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the middle 16th century blade, with mid 20th century fittings.

Length of blade: 13".   Overall length: 17.5".
