Keris Jawa Lurus Brojol Junjung Darjat 510.
Keris Jawa Lurus Brojol Junjung Darjat 510 – An old
and rare example of a keris from the central Javanese region of Surakarta.
Fittings in the gayaman Solo forms with the handle made from hard
tayuman woods, and the sheath made from pelet woods with naturally
occurring contrasting grains, and is made from a single piece of wood, or
seiras. Bottom stem is encased with an open front (showing the single piece
of wood without any joints) thick plain brass cover or pendok blewah.
Thick and very sturdy and heavy blade, with rather minimal base features and a rather short and broad overall outlook, is called brojol. It is said to be used by mid wife in assisting her line of work.
Pamor patterns are rare and are arranged in the miring technique showing peak formations from the base till the tip. This pattern is called junjung darjat and is said to enhance the owner’s status.
Condition: Very good condition.
Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the early 18th century blade with late 19th century fittings.
Length of blade: 12.5". Overall length: 18.5".
