Keris Jawa Luk 13 Kelingan Kayu Cendana A very good and rare example of  a keris from the central Javanese regions of Surakarta. Handle and sheath are made from scented sandal woods with the hilt having finely carved motifs with a face at the back called the garuda munkur. The hilt is also fitted with a mendak selut of white metals and studded with black stones. Bottom stem is encased with plain brass stem cover of pendok blewah.

Long, very sturdy blade with prominent thick spine and 13 meandering waves has very well executed and deep perabots or base features. It has an overall shape or dapor called sangkelat.

Metals used are not containing any contrasting nickel and has a term called kelingan. It is said to be used mainly by warriors due to its stronger metal compositions.

Condition: Very good condition. Aside from minor patching at the mouth of sheath, rest is all in very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the early 20th century.
