MALAY ART GALLERY'S....House of Keris
Keris Jawa Betok Puser Bumi.
Keris Jawa Betok Puser Bumi – A very rare example of a rather small and broad keris from the central Javanese regions. Handle in the bondolan form is made of pellet woods with natural contrasting grains, and the sheath in the sandang walikat forms is made from stained woods. A brass ferrule or mendak with colored glass stones completes fittings.
Short and sturdy blade with a rather broad profile, has an
overall shape or dapor called betok.
Pamor patterns are very condense with many unplanned pamor tibans, arranged in the mlumah technique of the wos utah or scattered rice variations. At the base of the blade, arranged in the miring technique, there is a circular pattern called pamor puser bumi or earthly swirl.
The pamor wos utah is said to enhance the owner’s material well being, while the pamor piser bumi is of the protective nature.
Condition: Very good condition.
Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the late 18th century blade, with late 20th century fittings..
Length of blade: 9.5". Overall length: 14".
