Keris Jawa Luk 5 Singa Barong 0121.

Keris Jawa Luk 5 Singa Barong 0121 A very good and rare example of a keris from the central Javanese regions of Surakarta. Fittings in the gayaman Solo forms with the handle made of burl woods or gembol, and the top sheath made of setar woods having finely repoussed silver alloy and brass stem covers or pendok bunton.  A white metal ferrule or mendak selut studded with green crystals, completes the fittings.

Very sturdy blade with 13 meandering luks or waves, and  very well executed base features or perabots, having the figurine at the base called singa barong, with an overall shape or dapor called Pendawa in Javanese.

Pamor patterns are rare and very well arranged in the miring technique, showing semi circular patterns along the edges and midsection called unthuk banyu, or water bubbles. It is said to enhance the owner's popularity.

Condition: Very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the late 20th century.

Length of blade: 15.5".   Overall length: 20.5".
