MALAY ART GALLERY'S....House of  Keris

Keris Kelantan Lurus Carita Kusiwo 0220.

Keris Kelantan Lurus Carita Kusiwop 0220 - Another very good example of a keris from the northern Malaysian peninsular region of Kelantan. Finely carved handle in the kerdas or pistol grip form, and top sheath in the less common kusiwo form, are made from very well selected kemuning woods. Bottom stem is made from angsana woods with a pierced through silver ferrule or pendoko completes fittings.

Very long and sturdy blade with prominent spine and deep fullers, having a straight or lurus profile, with the base features or perabots very well executed, and an overall shape or dapor called carita in Malay.

Pamor patterns are not contrasting, as it is the norm of the region to use less contrasting nickel, but more stronger iron or steel.

Condition: Very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the early 19th century blade, with late 20th century fittings.
