Keris Melayu Riau Luk 5 Gembol 810.

Keris Melayu Riau Luk 5 Gembol 810 – Another very good and rather rare example of a keris from the southern Sumatran region of Riau Lingga. Handle in the pistol grip or kerdas form is made from very well selected kemuning woods with flashing grains, and top sheath in the typical Malay tebeng form, is made from the rarely seen burl wood, or gembol. Bottom stem is made from well selected angsana woods with tiger’s stripe grains, having a kemuning bottom tip. A thick and well repoussed brass pendoko or ferrule completes fittings.

Thick and very sturdy blade with 5 waves or luks and rather base features or perabots, that is using a beak like feature for the gandik instead of the more commonly seen kembang kacang.

Pamor patterns are very condense, and are arranged in the mlumah technique of the wos utah or scattered rice variations. All patterns are unplanned or pamor tiban, and at the base a peak like formation of pamor tiban and is called nunggak semi.
The pamor wos utah is said to enhance the owner’s material well being while the pamor nuggak semi is said to enhance the owner’s status.

Condition:
Very good condition.
Aside from minor hairline cracks at the base of handle, rest is all in very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the early 19th century.

Length of blade: 13.1".   Overall length: 16.3".
