Keris Palembang Luk 13 Naga Siluman 0712.

Keris Palembang Luk 13 Naga Siluman 0712 – Very rare example of a keris from the southern Sumatran regions of Palembang. Handle in the semi natural form called gana, is made from had kemuning woods having a well repoussed silver base ferrule. The top sheath is also made from kemuning woods with the bottom stem fully encased with finely repoussed silver with floral motifs at the front and circumference motifs at the back.

Rare blade with 13 waves or luks and the base sculpted with a dragon or Naga. The scales of the Naga are present only at the base and this is a characteristic of the Naga Siluman, which is said to be invisible.

Pamor patterns are arranged in the mullah technique and are of the kulit semangko or melon skin pamor. It is said to enhance the owner’s popularity, while the Naga Siluman is sought after for its “invisible” properties.

Condition: Very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the late 19th century.

Length of blade: 15.1".   Overall length: 19.5".
