Keris Palembang Luk 9 Petola 1019.

Keris Palembang Luk 9 Petola 1019 - A very good and rare example of a keris from the southern Sumatran regions of Palembang. Finely carved handle in the semi bird form is made from hard dark woods called sono keling. Base of hilt is having a well repoussed brass ferrule or pendoko. Top sheath in the typical Palembang boat form, is made from very well selected kemuning woods with flashing grains, with the bottom stem or gandar, made from angsena woods with tiger's strip grains.

Slim but very sturdy blade with very sublime 9 waves or luks, has an overall shape or dapor called petola.

Pamor patterns are arranged in the mlumah technique, and shows few shades of black and white metals, that suggest a lot more variation of metals used.
Overall pamor wos utah or scattered rice with the base having a peak like formation called ujung gunung.

Condition: Very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the late 19th century blade and sheath, with mid 20th century hilt.

Length of blade: 14".   Overall length: 19".

Price:- US$520 excluding shipping.
