Keris Patani Luk 3 Jangkung.

Keris Patani Luk 3 Jangkung Ė Another very good and rare example of a keris from the northern Malaysian peninsular regions of Patani or Kelantan. Handle in the Jawa demam form is made from hard ketengga woods with natural contrasting grains, and the top sheath in the sabit bulan or crescent moon form, is made of kemuning woods with natural flashing grains. The bottom stem is made of angsena woods with tigerís stripe grains, and well repoussed thich brass ferrule or pendoko completes fittings.

Sturdy blade with 3 meandering luks and has the base features or perabots rather complete, with an overall shape or dapor called jangkung..
Blade is pattern welded with pamor arranged in the mlumah technique. Using rather interesting metals combinations, with an overall pamor pattern of the kulit semangko or melonís skin pamor.

Condition: Very good condition. Except for slight patching at the handle, rest is all in very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the late 19th century, with new handle and brass ferrule.

Length of blade: 15.5".   Overall length: 21.5".
