Keris Patani Luk 5 Pandai Saras Pamor Gigi Yu 0412.
Keris Patani Luk 5 Pandai Saras Pamor Gigi Yu 0412 –
A very good and rare example of a keris from the northern Malaysian peninsular
regions of Kelantan and Patani, southern Thailand. Handle in the kerdas
or pistol grip form, is made from very well selected kemuning woods, with
contrasting grains. Top sheath or sampir is made from the same
kemuning woods with flashing grains. The bottom stem or batang is
made from angsana woods with a thick and fine brass pendoko or
ferrule to complete fittings.
Very long and sturdy straight blade with prominent triangular spine typical of the regions styles, has very well executed base features or perabots with and overall shape or dapor called pandai saras.
The overall pamor patterns are arranged in the mlumah technique of the wos utah or scattered rice variations, with the edges showing zigzag patterns hugging the edges called gigi yu or shark’s tooth in Malay (grasshopper’s tooth or unthuk walang in Javanese)
The pamor wos utah is said to enhance the owner’s material well being while the pamor gigi yu is sought after for its strong protective properties.
Condition: Very good condition.
Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the mid 19th century blade, ferrule and hilt; with newly made sheath.
Length of blade: 15.5". Overall length: 19".
