Klewang Jawa Bunti Mayit Alpaka 0719.

Klewang Jawa Bunti Mayit Alpaka 0719 - Another rare example of a long sword called the klewang from the central Javanese region. Typical handle form, said to depict the makara (a combination of an elephant, dragon and fish), is made from wood and is encased at the grip and base with well repoussed silver alloy metals called alpaka in Javanese. The wooden sheath is also encased with similar alpaka metal encasements.

Very long and sturdy blade with a slender arcing profile (saber) having two fullers running along the middle, and with a double edge  tip.

Rare pamor patterns are arranged in the miring technique showing a twisting pattern formation called the buntil mayit, or death shroud, which is said to enhance the owner's status.

Condition: Very good condition.

Age:  Krises and other edge weapons from the region are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the early to mid 19th century blade, with late 20th century fittings.

Length of blade: 22".   Overall length: 30.5".
