Klewang Jawa Tandok Adeg 0715 - A very good example of a sword from the central Javanese regions, called the klewang. The finely carved buffalo horn handle in the form of the makara;- a mythical creature combining an elephant, a dragon and a fish. Sheath is made of hard teak woods, and has plain silver alloy bands.

Long and very sturdy blade with an arcing profile, has a single sharp edge, but at the tip it tapers into a double edge.

Pamor patterns are arranged in the mlumah technique of the wos tuah or scattered rice variations. It is said to enhance the owner's material well being.

Condition: Very good condition.

Age:  Krises and other edge weapons from the region are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to mid to late 19th century.
