Moro Philippines Kampilan 0412.

Moro Philippines Kampilan 0412 – Very good example and rare example of a long sword from the southern Philippine region of Mindanao. Handle is made of well selected kemuning woods with fine carvings resembling a croc. An iron guard protrudes from one side of the handle with dyed horse’s hairs protruding from one side of the hilt.

Exceptionally long and very sturdy blade is still very sharp. Blade is pattern welded with pamors arranged in the miring technique and is of the adeg or standing variations.

Arguably the longest sword from this region, it was used by high status warriors in the Philippines during the Portuguese colonization.

Condition: Very good condition.

Age:  Krises and other edge weapons from the region are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the early to middle 19th century.

Length of blade: 29.5".   Overall length: 39".
