Pisau Raut Kelantan 0220.

Pisau Raut Kelantan 0220 - A example of a short utility shredding knife or pisau raut from the northern Malaysian peninsular region of Kelantan. Handle in the kakatua or cockatoo bird form and top sheath are made from very well selected well grained hard kemuning woods having a buffalo horn base ferrule hilt.

Single edge blade is rather broad and short, with a pointy double edge tip, and the semi circular indention at the base to assist in use for shredding bamboos.

Blade is made from more modern steel salvaged from colonial era vehicles, with the base having the stamp of the maker.

Condition: Very good condition.

Age:  Krises and other edge weapons from the region are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to early to mid 20th century.

Length of blade: 11.5".   Overall length: 16".

Price:- US$220 excluding shipping.
