Keris Bugis Sulawesi Luk 9 Pendok Tembaga 709.

Keris Bugis Sulawesi Luk 9 Pendok Tembaga 709 - Another good example of a keris from the southern Sulawesi regions of Bugis. Handle in the kerdas form, and top sheath in the tebeng form, are made from well selected kemuning woods with flashing grains. Bottom stem is made of angsena woods and is encased with repoussed brass alloy. A copper ferrule or pendoko completes fittings.

Sturdy blade with 9 waves or luks and typical Bugis perabots or base features that includes the picetan without any sogokan, kembang kacang and jalen.

Pamor patterns are arranged in the miring technique and shows vertical pamor patterns called adeg or standing pamor. At the base a peak like formation is seen and is called pamor ujung gunung.
The pamor adeg  is said to protect the owner from natural mishaps, while the pamor ujung gunung is said to enhance the owner's status.

Condition: Very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to middle 18^th century blade with late 19^th century fittings.

Length of blade: 13.6".   Overall length: 16.5".
