from the southern Sulawesi region of Bugis. Handle in the typical Bugis
kerdas or pistol grip form, and
top sheath are made from well selected kemuning woods
with natural flashing grains. The bottom stem is made from angsena woods
with tiger’s stripe grains with a brass ferrule or pendoko to
completes fittings.
Long and very sturdy straight blade with plain base features or perabots and
an angled profile with the typical Bugis styled hexagonal cross section. The
overall shape or dapor is
called sepokal.
Pamor patterns are arranged in the mlumah technique,
and has a peak like formation at the base called pamor ujung
gunung, with contouring pamor wos utah or scattered rice at the top.
With 2 different pamor patterns, it is also called dwi
warna or bi colored.
Condition: Very good condition.
Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the middle 19th century.
Length of blade: 13". Overall length: 16.5".
