Keris Jawa Solo Lurus Jalak Ladrangan Seiras.
Keris Jawa Solo Lurus Jalak
Ladrangan Seiras - Another very good
example of a keris from the central Javanese regions of Surakarta. Fittings in
the ladrangan Solo forms with the hilt made of hard tayuman(?)
woods, and the top sheath or wrangka made from very well selected
trembalo woods that is made from a single piece of woods, or seiras.
Bottom stem is encased with thick plain brass outer stem cover or pendok
blewah. A brass ferrule or mendak with colored glass insertions
completes fittings.
Sturdy straight or lurus blade, with well executed base features or
perabots that uses the nguku bima or bima’s claw instead of the usual
kembang kacang or elephant’s trunk like features. It has an overall shape
or dapor called jalak ngore(?).
Pamor patterns are arranged in the mlumah technique with an
overall pamor kulit semangko or melon’s skin. All patterns are unplanned
or pamor tiban, and has some unplanned pamor tiban that has
mystical references.
The pamor kulit semangko is said to enhance the owner’s popularity, while
the unplanned pamor tibans are of the protective nature.
Condition: Very good condition.
Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the middle 18th century blade with late 19th century fittings and new ferrule.
Length of blade: 14". Overall length: 19".
