Keris Jawa Betok (Tindih) Putut Kembar.
Keris Jawa Betok (Tindih) Putut Kembar – A rare
example of a small keris from the central Javanese regions. Handle in the
bondolan form and sheath in the sandang walikat forms, are
made from hard teak woods with the handle using teak burl or jati gembol.
Thick, broad and heavy blade, has an overall shape or dapor called
betok. It also has two figurine in a meditating posture at the base
called the putut kembar. The ferrule or metok is also made
with the same metals as the blade. This features qualifies the piece as a
keris tindih, which is used to neutralize any unhealthy mystical
presence in other kerises so as not to have a negative effect to the owner.
Pamor patterns are arranged in the mlumah technique with a peak formation
at the base of the blade called pamor nunggak semi, and above it
are pamor of the wos utah or scattered rice variation.
The pamor nunggak semi is said to enhance the owner’s status, while the
pamor wos utah is said to enhance the owner’s material well being.
Condition: Very good condition.
Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the early 19th century with late 20th century fittings.
Length of blade: 10". Overall length: 14.5".
