Keris Jawa Lurus Jalak Tilam Upih.
Keris Jawa Lurus Jalak Tilam Upih – A very good
example of a keris from the central Javanese region of Surakarta, with
the fitting in the gayaman Solo styles. Handle is made from dark and hard
tayuman woods with the patras well carved. Top sheath or
wrangka is made of very well selected pellet woods with natural
contrasting grains. Bottom stem is encased with repoussed brass cover or
pendok blewah. A brass ferrule or mendak studded with zircons and low
grade rubies completes fittings.
Long, very sturdy and rather broad blade has rather minimal features or
perabots that includes a picetan and the tikel alis. The tip
of the blade ends with a point and is called nyunti. With it's broad
nature, the overall shape or dapor is called jalak tilam upih.
Pamor patterns are arranged in the mlumah technique and is very
condensed. The overall pamor arrangement is called wos utah or scattered
rice with all pattern unplanned, or pamor tiban. With a good knowledge of
pamor backgrounds, a person can find other pamor tibans that has mystical
references.
The pamor wos utah is said to enhance the owner's material well being,
while other pamor tibans are usually of the protective nature.
Condition: Very good condition.
Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the mid 19th century.
Length of blade: 14.1". Overall length: 20.3".
