Keris Jawa Jogja Luk 7 Dwi Warna.
Keris Jawa Jogja Luk 7 Dwi Warna – A very good and
rare example of a keris from the central Javanese regions of Jogjakarta.
Fittings in the gayaman Jogja styles, with the hilt and the top sheath or
wrangka made of well selected pelet woods with natural contrasting
grains. Bottom stem is fully encased with a well repoussed brass stem cover or
pendok bunton. A silver ferrule or mendak with colored glass
profusion completes fittings.
Rare blade with prominent spine and 7 meandering luks, located at the
bottom half of the blade, with the base features or perabots using the
uncommon gandik and a wavy cross piece or ganjar wilut.
Pamor patterns are rare and are arranged in the miring technique. One side of
the blade has the patterns forming the pamor blarak ngirid or palm leaf,
and the other side has the arrangement called unthuk banyu or water
bubbles.
The pamor blarak ngirid is said to enhance the owner’s stature, while the
pamor unthuk banyu is said to enhance the owner’s popularity. With two
pamor arrangements, it is also termed dwi warna or bi colored.
Condition: Very good condition.
Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to middle 20th century.
Length of blade: 14". Overall length: 18.8".
