Keris Jawa Jogjakarta Lurus Pamor Luwu.
Keris Jawa Jogjakarta Lurus Pamor Luwu – A very good
example of keris from the central Javanese regions of Jogjakarta. Fittings in
the gayaman Jogja styles having the top sheath or wrangka made of
very well selected trembalo woods. Handle is made of hard wood with the
bottom stem fully encased with finely repoussed brass cover having floral and
animal motifs at the front and the emblem of Jogjakarta at the back. A brass
ferrule or mendak completes fittings.
Long, very sturdy straight blade with rather plain base features that has an
overall shape or dapor called tilam sari.
Pamor patterns are very condense and shows very good selection of metals with few shades of black and white. At the base a semi circular formation is called batu lapak and above it are pamor of the kulit semangko or melon’s skin variations.
The presence of very bright white pamor lines strongly
suggest the use of pamor luwu which is highly sought after.
The pamor batu lapak is said to protect the owner in times of chaos,
while the pamor kulit semangko is said to enhance the owner’s popularity.
The pamor luwu which comes from a region called Luwu in Southern Sulawesi
is highly sought after for its strong mystical properties.
Condition: Very good condition.Aside from minor hairline cracks at the handle, rest is all in very good condition.
Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to middle to late 19th century.
Length of blade: 14.5". Overall length: 19".
