Keris Madura Lurus Ladrangan Batu Lapak.
Keris Madura Lurus Ladrangan Batu Lapak – A very
good and rare example of a keris from the island of Madura, eastern Java. Top
sheath or wrangka is in the ladrangan Madura styles and is made of
very well selected kemuning woods with natural flashing grains. Handle is
made of hard and dark woods and is finely carved in the forms typical of the
region’s styles. Bottom stem is encased with an open brass cover or pendok
blewah. A well repoussed silver ferrule or mendak completes
fittings.
Very long and very sturdy blade with a thick prominent spine and base features
that are rather plain, and this has an overall shape or dapor called
tilam upih.
Pamor patterns are very condense and are well arranged in the mlumah
technique and are of the wos utah or scattered rice variations. At the
base, and in the other miring technique, a peak like formations is called pamor
ujung gunung, and inside it is another smaller semi circle called pamor
batu lapak.
The pamor wos utah is said to enhance the owner's material well bring,
while the pamor batu lapak is aid to protect the owner in times of chaos.

Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the early 19th century.
