Keris Melayu Debek Luk 3 Ulu Garham.
Keris Melayu Debek Luk 3 Ulu Garham – A very good
and rare example of a keris from the northern Malaysian peninsular regions of
Kelantan or Trrengganu. Handle in the typical Malay jawa demam style is
made from the rare fossilized mammoth molar or graham gajah. Top
sheath in the debek form, is made from well selected kemuning
woods with flashing grains. Bottom stem is made from angsena woods with
tight tiger’s stripe grains that occur due to windy conditions. A thick, well
chiseled brass pendoko or ferrule completes fittings.
Very sturdy blade with 3 waves or luks and shallow fullers flanking the
spine, is rather short but broad with a couple of rare features that includes
the wavy cross piece or ganjar wilut, and an elongated gandik
called kebo teki in Javanese.
The black metals used shows high carbon metals which is called besi malela
in Malay or kelingan in Javanese.
The whole nature of the keris has a term called keris debek in
Malay which may have similarities with the keris betok in
Javanese.
Condition: Very good condition.
Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the late 19th century.
Length of blade: 10". Overall length: 16".
