Keris Melayu Bugis Luk 7.
Keris Melayu Bugis Luk 7 – Another very good example
of a keris from the Malaysian peninsular regions, with the handle in the
kerdas form and made from well selected kemuning woods. Top sheath is
made of very well selected hard kemuning woods with natural flashing and
contrasting grains. Bottom stem is made of angsena woods with tiger’s
stripe grains, and an ivory bottom tip. A thick and well repoussed brass
pendoko or ferrule completes fittings.
Very sturdy blade with seven waves or luks and well executed perabots
or base features, that includes the typical Bugis hexagonal cross sectioned.
Pamor patterns are arranged in the mlumah technique, and are of the
kulit semangko or melon’s skin variations. At the base some unplanned
pamor patterns, or pamor tiban forms, and has mystical references (pamor
rojo gundolo).
The pamor kulit semangko is said to enhance the owner popularity, and
the pamor tiban are of the protective nature, protecting from “unseen”
forces.
Condition: Very good condition. Aside from minor edge wears and hairline cracks at hilt, rest is all in very good condition.
Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the late 19th century.
Length of blade: 14". Overall length: 18.5".
