Keris Minang Kabau Luk 11 Pogokan Perak.
Keris Minang Kabau Luk 11 Pogokan Perak – A good
example of a keris from the Sumatran region of Minang Kabau. Handle in the
jawa demam form and top sheath are made from hard woods, with the bottom
stem having well repoussed silver panels. A well repoussed silver ferrule or
pendoko completes fittings.
Long and sturdy blade with 11 meandering waves or luks, has well defined base
features or perabots, which is using the rare kembang kacang
pogokan.
Pamor patterns are arranged in the mlumah technique, and show a few
shades of black and white metal variations. The overall pamor is called kulit
semangko or melon’s skin, and it is said to enhance the owner’s popularity.
Condition: Very good condition. Aside from
minor chips at the silver panels, rest is all in very good condition.
Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to early 19th century blade with mid 20th century wooden fittings, and older silver panels and ferrule.
Length of blade: 14". Overall length: 18.2".
