Keris Minang Luk 5 Ulu Garham Gajah.

Keris Minang Luk 5 Ulu Garham Gajah – Another good and rather rare example of a keris from the Sumatran regions of Minang Kabau. Handle in the jawa demam form is made from the rare fossilized mammoth molar or graham gajah. Top sheath is made from well selected kemuning woods with natural flashing grains, with the bottom stem made of angsema woods. A filigree brass ferrule or pendoko completes fittings.

Sturdy blade with 5 meandering waves or luks has rather plain base features or perabots.

Pamor patterns are arranged in the mlumah technique and are of the kulit semangka or melon skin variations. All patterns are unplanned or pamor tiban, and at the base a re some unplanned pamor tibans that has mystical references.

Condition: Very good condition.  Aside from minor hairline cracks at the hilt and wooden sheath’s neck joints, rest is all in very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the middle 19^th century fittings.
