Alamang Toraja Tri Warna.

Alamang Toraja Tri Warna – A rare sword called alamang, of central Sulawesi, Toraja in origin. Buffalo horn handle is very well carved with pierced through works in the form typical of the region's styles, having ivory panel insets and rattan band weavings at the base. Hard wooden outer sheath is also wrapped with rattan bands.

Very sturdy blade with a single sharp edge and is still rather sharp. It has a rather pointy tip typical of alamang styles.

Pamor is patterns are rare and are arranged in miring technique. At the base a swirl like formation is called pamor qul buntet. Above it are pamor bulu ayam of chicken feathers, and the top has diagonal pamor lines called pamor buntil mayit.
With three different pamor combinations, it si also referred to as tri warna or tri colored.

. Aside from very minor chip at the sheath, rest is all in very good condition.

Age:  Krises and other edge weapons from the region are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the middle 19th century.
