Alamang Toraja Tri Warna.

Alamang Toraja Tri Warna – A very good and rare example of a sword called the alamang from the central Sulawesi regions of Toraja. Wooden hilt and sheath are made with the typical alamang forms with the sheath having rattan bindings and a plain brass hilt base.
Very sturdy single edge blade that broadens a little at the top also has a concave surface.

Rare pamor pattern arranged in the miring technique and has three different arrangements. From the base a swirl formation is called pamor qul buntet, at the middle are pamor blarak ngirid or coconut leaf and at the top is the pamor unthuk banyu or water bubbles. With 3 pamor arrangements it is also termed tri warna or tri colored.

Condition: Very good condition.

Age:  Krises and other edge weapons from the region are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the late 19th century.

Length of blade: 15.4".   Overall length: 24.6".
