Badek Bugis Sulawesi Tri Warna.

Badek Bugis Sulawesi Tri Warna – A rare example of a side weapon called the badek from the southern Sulawesi regions of Bugis. Handle and top sheath are made from well selected kemuning woods with natural flashing grains, with the base of the handle using stronger hardwoods kenaung(?). Bottom stem is made of angsena woods with a kemuning wooden bottom tip.

Thick and rather long blade for a badek (13.7”) having a single sharp edge and broadening at the top.

Pamor patterns are rare and shows complicated pamor arrangements in the miring technique. At the base, a peak like formation is called pamor ujung gunung, and above it has the background pamor of the wos utah or scattered rice variations, with the middle having another complicated pattern called pamor unthuk banyu, or water bubbles. With three different pamor patterns, it is also called tri warna or tri colored.

The pamor ujung gunung is said to enhance the owner’s status and the pamor wos utah is said to enhance the owner’s material well being, while the pamor unthuk banyu is said to enhance the owner’s popularity.

Condition: Very good condition.

Age:  Krises and other edge weapons from the region are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the middle 19^th century.

Blade length: 13.7”.  Overall length: 18.2”.

• To the U.S.A, present rates are at US$33.00 per kilogram by FedEx (3 days) and Speedpost are at US$24.00 per kilogram (10 days). Other destinations please do inquire.
