Golok Jawa Pendita Perak.

Golok Jawa Pendita Perak – A very good and rare example of a short sword or golok from the central Javanese regions. Handle is made of hardwoods and is in the form of the mythical creature called makara. It is also encased at the base with finely repoussed silver alloy. Sheath is made of wood and is fully encased with finely repoussed silver alloy with fine floral and bird motifs.

Thick and very sturdy blade with single sharp edge that runs along the straight side. The base of the blade has a rare feature of a figurine called the pendita or meditating man. There are also depressions on the surface suggesting the use of a pinching technique which uses the bare thumb and fingers to pinch the red hot blade. This technique is called picetan, and is done for more mystical reasons.

Pamor patterns are very condensed and are arranged in both the miring and mlumah technique. At the base on one side of the blade, semi circular formations are called pamor batu lapak. On the other side of the base, a circular formation is called pamor qul buntet. Above them are very condensed pamor wos utah or scattered rice.

The pamor qul buntet is said to protect the owner while the pamor batu lapak is sought after for its protection in warfare, and the pamor wos utah is said to enhance the owner’s material well being.

Condition:
Very good condition.

Age:  Krises and other edge weapons are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece,  from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the early 19th century blade and hilt, with mid 20th century sheath.

Length of blade: 17".   Overall length: 23.2".
