Klewang Sumatra Tandok Makara 2.

Klewang Sumatra Tandok Makara 2 – Another very good example of a sword called the klewang from the Sumatran regions. Handle in the form of the makara is finely carved out of buffalo horn. Sheath is made of wood and binded with few panels of weaved rattan.

Thick and very sturdy blade with a slightly arcing profile and a tapering tip; features common in Sumatran klewang.

Pamor patterns are arranged in the mlumah technique and are of the wos utah or scattered rice variations. It is said to enhance the owner’s material well being.

ood condition
. Aside from very minor hairline crack at the base of hilt, rest is all in very good condition.

Age:  Krises and other edge weapons from the region are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the middle 19th century.
