Parang Sumatra Tandok Pamor Triman.

Parang Sumatra Tandok Pamor Triman – A very good and rather rare example of a sword or parang from the island of Sumatra. The handle is made of buffalo horn and in the form of a relief makara. The base of the hilt is encased with a black painted brass ferrule. The top of the hilt also has a plain brass panel. The sheath is made of very well selected angsena woods with tiger’s stripe grains.

Very sturdy and thick blade with a single sharp edge and a broad tip has the base flaring out a little.

Pamor pattern are arranged in the mlumah technique and a cluster at the base is called pamor triman with the top having the pamor wos utah or scattered rice. Both pamor are said to enhance the owner’s status as well as a protective pamor.

. Aside from very minor chip at the sheath, rest is all in very good condition.

Age:  Krises and other edge weapons from the region are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the middle 19th century.
