Pedang Batak Tandok Figurine.

Pedang Batak Tandok Figurine – A very good example of a short sword from the central Sumatran regions of Batak. Buffalo horn hilt in the form of a squatting figurine, with carved wooden sheath encased with plain silver bands.

Very sturdy blade is thick and still very sharp. Having circular fretworks at the base and a broad but tapering top, the blade is typical of the pedang Batak. The blade is also tempered, as seen from the darker shades at the sharp edges near the top half.

Pamor patterns are very condense and not using contrasting metals, arranged in the mlumah technique of the wos utah or scattered rice variations.

Condition: Very good condition.

Age:  Krises and other edge weapons from the region are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the middle to late 19^th century.

Length of blade: 18".   Overall length: 24.2".

• To the U.S.A, present rates are at US$33.00 per kilogram by FedEx (3 days) and Speedpost are at US$24.00 per kilogram (10 days). Other destinations please do inquire.
