Sewah Aceh Tandok Dwi Warna.

Sewah Aceh Tandok Dwi Warna – A very good and rare example of a side weapon called the sewah from the northern Sumatran region of Aceh. Handle and top sheaths are made from buffalo horn and is finely carved with pierced through works. Bottom stem is made from angsena woods and still retaining the old sapan asli finish.

Thick and very sturdy blade is still sharp, with a thick base ferrule or metok and an arcing profile.

Pamor patterns are rare and complicatedly arranged in the miring technique, having a semi circular formation at the base called pamor batu lapak, and above it are pamor unthuk banyu or water bubbles. With two different pamor patterns, it is also called dwi warna or bi colored.

The pamor batu lapak is said to protect the owner in times of chaos while the pamor unthuk banyu is said to enhance the owner status.

Condition: Very good condition. Aside from chips at the back of the top sheath, rest is all in very good condition.

Age:  Krises and other edge weapons from the region are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the middle 19th century.

Blade length: 11.9”.  Overall length: 17”.
