Tulwar Wootz Gold Koftgari.

Tulwar Wootz Gold Koftgari – A fine example of a saber sword called Tulwar, with the handle having fine gold koftgari works and colored glass embedment. Wooden sheath is encased with blue velvet and white metals panels at the top and bottom.

Very sturdy blade with a single sharp edge and an arcing profile typical of the Tulwar. Blade surface had been re-etched to show patterns and is not very sharp. Base of the blade is also having fine gold koftgari works.

Blade is pattern welded with very condense pattern called wootz. It is said to be a lost art form.

. Aside from a couple of missing colored glass embedment at the hilt and some missing pieces of velvet encasement at the back of the sheath, rest is all in very good condition.

Age:  Krises and other edge weapons from the region are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the 19th century hilt and blade with mid 20th century sheath and re-inlaid gold kofgari.
