Wavy Persian Sword With Jade Hilt.

Wavy Persian Sword With Jade Hilt – A very unusual example of a wavy sword from the Persian regions with the hilt made from green Jade stone and carved with a face wearing a crown. Wooden sheath is encased with blue velvet and white metals panels at the top and bottom.

Thick and very sturdy blade with many waves, and with the Jade hilt, feels heavy upon handling. The base has silver kofgari works of an Arabic verse from the Quran.

Blade is pattern welded with very condense patterns called bird’s eye.

Age:  Krises and other edge weapons from the region are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the 19th century hilt and blade with mid 20th century sheath.

Length of blade: 19".   Overall length: 27.5".
