Keris Bali Lurus Garapan Ulu Bahtera Banyu 1217.

Keris Bali Lurus Garapan Ulu Bahtera Banyu 1217 A very good example of a keris from the island of Bali. Handle in the form of a deity called Bahtera Banyu, is made from wood encased copper, having colored glass insets. Sheath or wrangka, is in the Gayaman Bali form, and is made from well selected pelet woods, with natural contrasting grains that appear due to fungus attack on that particular part of the tree only.

Very long and sturdy blade straight or lurus blade, has a thick spine and well define features or garapan, typical of the Balinese styles.

Pamor patterns are arranged in the mlumah technique, of the kulit semangko or melons skin, having the concentration on the thick spine. The pamor kulit semangko is said to enhance the owners popularity.

Condition: Very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the early 19th century.

Length of blade: 21".   Overall length: 26.5".
