Keris Bugis Riau Lurus Ulu Ukiran 0213.

Keris Bugis Riau Lurus Ulu Ukiran 0213 – Another very good and rare example of a keris from the southern Sumatran region of Bugis Riau Lingga. The top sheath or sampir is made from very well selected kemuning woods with natural flashing grains, with the bottom stem made from angsana wood with plain silver panels and a repoussed silver ferrule or pendoko completes fittings.

Long and very sturdy straight blade with prominent spine and very well executed base features or perabots.

Pamor pattern are condense, and showing good contrast in the variety of metal selections arranged in the mlumah technique of the kulit semangko or melon’s skin variations.
The pamor kulit semangko is said to enhance the owner’s popularity.

Condition: Very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the late 19th century.

Length of blade: 13.5".   Overall length: 16.6".
