Keris Bugis Sulawesi Luk 11 Meteor 1112.

Keris Bugis Sulawesi Luk 11 Meteor 1112 – A very good and rare example of a keris from the southern Sulawesi region of Bugis. Handle in the kerdas form and top sheath are made from very well selected kemuning woods with natural flashing grains. Bottom stem is made from angsena woods with tiger’s stripe grains. A thick brass ferrule or pendoko completes fittings.

Very sturdy blade with 11 waves or luks and very well executed base features or perabots and an angled edges or gusen, with the typical Bugis styled hexagonal cross section.

Pamor patterns are arranged in the mlumah technique, and has a peak like formation at the base called pamor ujung gunung, with an overall central pamor kulit semangko or melon skin, and the perimeter lines along the edges called pamor wengkon. With three pamor patterns, it is also called tri warna or tri colored.

The few highly contrasting or “crystalline” pamor lines strongly suggest the presence of meteoric metals.

The blade is also well tempered or nyepuh as seen from the darker on the top three quarter of the blade.

Condition: Aside from minor patch at the sheath’s neck, rest is all in very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to middle to early 19th century.

Length of blade: 13".   Overall length: 16".
