Keris Cirebon Lurus Ulu Tandok 0916.

Keris Cirebon Lurus Ulu Tandok 0916 - A very good example of a keris from the northern Javanese coastal region of Cirebon. Finely carved handle is made from white deer horn or kijang putih, and is in the form of a hidden deity called the putra satu. Top sheath or wrangka is in the gayaman from and made from pelet woods with naturally occurring contrasting grains. Bottom stem or gandar is encased with an open brass stem cover or pendok blewah.

Thick, strong and very sturdy blade with a straight or lurus profile and plain base features or perabots, having an overall shape or dapor called tilam upih.

Pamor patterns are arranged in the mlumah technique showing contouring patterns and compact smooth surface called pamor kulit semangko or melon skin pamor.
The pamor kulit semangko is said to enhance the owner's popularity.

Condition: Very good condition.

Age:  Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the mid to late 17th century blade, with restored 19th century fittings.

Length of blade: 14".   Overall length: 18.5".
