Keris Jawa Jogja Luk 9 Kelingan 0918 - Another very good and rather rare example of a keris from the central Javanese regions of Jogjakarta. Fittings in the gayaman Jogjakarta styles are made from very well selected pelet woods with natural contrasting grains. A brass ferrule or mendak and a well repoussed silver plated brass stem cover or pendok completes fittings.

Very sturdy blade with 5 meandering waves or luks and prominent spine or ada-ada, has very well executed perabots, base features, that includes the nguku bima, and the ganjar wilut, or wavy base cross piece. It has an overall shape or dapor called Anuman in Javanese.

Pamor patterns are not using any nickel, but iron and steel. Arranged in the mlumah technique, the black nature of the blade is called kelingan in Javanese.

Condition: Very good condition.

Age: Krises are traditionally made without any date stampings or engravings of the makers' name. Although a kris smith or "empu" has his own styles configured together with the dapor and especially the ganjar (cross piece). Obvious age wear and tear, usage, familiarity with forms, motifs and designs, origin and history, mediums and materials used are our guidelines in determining an approximate age. This particular piece, from our experience and knowledge, should go back to the late 19th century, with new outer stem cover.
